EBBID Secures $3.5 Million in Contracts for Local Businesses
The EBBID was able to generate revenue for area companies in the building’s trade by securing contracts in the New Lots Plaza project. Note: New Lots Plaza is a $25 million, 87 unit affordable housing complex built by the LDCENY. By the EBBID efforts over $3.5 million in new revenue was recycled in East Brooklyn for area companies (MSI, Leo International, Eastern Steel, Liberty Electric, Feldman Lumber).
EBBID Assists Local Business Secure $1.3 Million in Loans Creating 150 Jobs
Empire State Bus, a fleet bus company provides transportation services for schools throughout NYC, has received technical and ombudsman assistance from the EBBID to apply and obtain a 7(a) SBA, Statewide Capital Credit Corp, and a WTC loan. These three loans total $1,300,000. The EBBID presented and supported the applicant’s loan package before the East Brooklyn Empire Zone Administrative Board and helped sheppard the loan thru SBA on an expedited basis. This action resulted in Mr. Curcio expanding his operation from 35 individuals to over 200 and leasing an additional 10,000 SF in the EBBID.
EBBID Secures $8Million+ in Contracts
The construction of New Lots Plaza, a $23,000,000, 87 unit affordable housing project, was an economic opportunity for the EBBID and surrounding businesses. The EBBID was able to leverage its construction supply sector to partake in the development and by hosting a “meet and greet” session between EBBID businesses, the project’s developer and architect to open construction contracts to local vendors and suppliers. As a result, nearly 8.3 million of construction/supply contracts were let to EBBID and surrounding firms.
Pitkin/Snediker Street Signage Installed Thanks to EBBID Advocacy
After four years of trying, the EBBID was finally successful in having NYC DOT place a street sign at the intersection of Pitkin and Snediker Avenue. The Brooklyn Borough Engineering Office had to complete a field investigation an issue an order for one set of street name signs to be installed at said location. This enabled companies on Snediker Avenue to be able to properly direct customers, vendors and suppliers to their businesses location.
Bioswales & New Trees Make East New York Attractive Destination
The EBBID is becoming a more attractive destination by virtue of 28 Bioswales and over 200 trees planted during the last fiscal year. The EBBID finds it incumbent to maintain and support this green face lift that is transforming the park. The EBBID will be adopting and maintaining trees and will encourage our members to do the same. Additionally, we will direct and train our clean team on how to properly care for the new plantings. We will support major clean up drives and activities that foster the upkeep of the tree pits and Bioswales with the respective agencies.
EBBID Installs Surveillance Program
As reported, the Illegal Dumping Camera Surveillance Program was originally instituted at seven sites with 21 cameras along with 40 “No Illegal Dumping” signs posted in FY 2007/2008. In lieu of the initial success of this program the board allocated $10,000 for FY 2009/2010. This funding allowed the EBBID to develop three more sites prone to dump-outs. The EBBID now has 10 sites being monitored and 30 operational cameras. The EBBID is of the opinion that these cameras along with signage have acted as a deterrent in illegal dump-outs and this assumption is based on the total yards collected annually.
